****Can you "legally" identify your pet?****

You can now have your pet micro chipped by The Mission Valley Animal Shelter.  The microchip number is registered with the AKC HOME AGAIN program.  If your animal is picked up by animal control or is taken to an Animal Shelter, it will be scanned.  The microchip will reveal a distinct and individual number that is then reported to the HOME AGAIN program where they have your name, address, phone #, Vets name, and MVAS name on record.  One of the names is called and the lost animal is returned to the registered owner.

It’s a wonderful program.  Quick, relatively painless.  The microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice.  It is inserted under the skin at the base of the neck and shoulder-blades.  That's all there is to it.  It is made out of an inert ingredient so it does not affect the animal in any way.  It does not migrate in the body—the tissue begins growing around the chip within 24hrs.
Registration takes approximately 6-8 weeks.  Your pet is identified for the rest of his/her life.

MVAS  charges $35.00/animal, or $31.50 for MVAS members.
